FAQ

♣ Wait, what?

Characters are brought to a replica of Princess Peach's castle. Not an exact replica though. There are more rooms suitable for bedrooms, a kitchen, some bathrooms and a library. And of course all the paintings are different and can change on occasion.

Mr. Cloak found his first attempt to create a world out of the pieces of others to be a failure. But he's not giving up. Now he's experimenting with copies of places instead...

The way home is known by at least one person in the castle. They just can't say anything to new arrivals right away because Mr. Cloak wants you to stay for at least a little while.

The paintings hold temporary versions of the replica pieces. It is all very similar to how the paintings work in Super Mario 64. Characters go in, complete a task and get a reward. Or get unceremoniously ejected from the painting if they fail or die. Rewards may include the keys to the upper floors), money or luxury items. Some paintings contain shops to spend the money(which is automatically converted to the currency present in the world represented by the painting) and to sell unwanted items. (Attempting to sell the silver cutlery from the kitchen will result in the shopkeeper saying they don't buy stolen goods.)

NPCs are mostly people who have been given a second chance at life. They mostly live in the paintings for now.

Great. Now how do I join?

Characters

♣ What kinds of characters can we play?

Characters from movies, comics, anime, cartoons, TV series, video games and other things. Please no entirely crack muses or characters from canons aimed at very young children.

♣ Are original characters allowed?

Yes.

Try not to have a canon character's brother/sister/daughter/brainworm/whatevers though... but it's a musebox and if someone in the game really wants to play that stuff with you, you can.

♣ Multiples? Alternate universe?

Yes to both.

♣ A character who has died?

Yes. They'll be alive and well. No one will be able or willing to explain it though.

♣ What kinds of characters are NOT allowed?

-Real people.

♣ What kinds of NPCs are there?

Mr. Cloak. The one responsible for creating this world. He will not show up often if at all.

There are going to be several paintings of places that have been destroyed in their canon.

Mr. Cloak has given the residents that died there a second chance at life and they will live in the painting for the time being.

Merchants: If there is a shop in one of the paintings the person that normally runs it will be there. Though some of them may not exactly be real.

Traveling merchants such as Chocolina from FFXIII-2 or Neko from Secret of Mana may be found in some places that would not normally have a merchant.

Bunnies: Bunny like monsters or the bunnies from Super Mario 64 can be found occasionally. If caught they'll give up a key to a drawer on a cabinet somewhere inside the castle or another small item. Harmless unless provoked.

Bunny Cam: For all your accidental video needs. A Happy Bunny from FFXII with a camera. Can open doors and has a love for pancakes and shiny objects.

Setting

♣ The world is expanding?

Sort of. The world is all there but, it's mostly barren wasteland. The replica pieces found inside paintings within the castle are being considered as possible additions to the world outside.

Not all the painting pieces will be added and not all that is added will have a painting beforehand.

Players are encouraged to suggest locations both in and out of the paintings.

♣ The castle?

A replica of Princess Peach's Castle from Super Mario 64. Though many of the things inside the various rooms are different.

♣ Paintings?

The paintings are portals to small pocket dimension areas containing replicas of the places characters were when they were brought here and some random places.

The portal paintings will ripple if brushed up against or the wall shook.

♣ What kinds of places are in the paintings?

Part of a city or town, forest, plains, mountains. Pretty much anything but, not too big an area. Could be as big as a few miles but, most will be smaller.

If there are monsters there in canon there will be monsters in the painting replica. If there aren't usually monsters there won't be any in the painting except possibly during some events.

♣ Monsters?

Show up in paintings of places that normally have them or in the castle during monster events.

Monsters will occasionally drop random things along with or instead of the items they normally would in their canon.

♣ Supplies?

Despite being a castle only basic foodstuffs are found in the kitchen. Sweets and luxury food items will have to be bought, made or found.

Changes of clothes will also have to be bought or found if your character wasn't already carrying them.

There are shops in some of the paintings for this and a shop or two may show up somewhere within the castle.

Game-play

♣ Communication?
There are some computers in the library that are connected to a Livejournal/Dreamwidth like site. If your character has a portable computer or cell phone they can use them. It's also possible to buy one in a shop.

They may use those to post to the network comm [community profile] pieces_net

For face-to-face interactions or any adventures, solo or as a group, post in the main community [community profile] piecesofworlds. This is not required. You can simply have your character post about these adventures in the network community if you want.

For out of character stuff such as hiatus announcements or random stuff you'd like to share there is pieces_ooc [community profile] pieces_ooc

♣ Plot?

There are many complications that one comes across when creating a world. Especially when you're using the remnants of a destroyed world as a starting point.

Some player characters are brought in for some unknown task relating to those complications.

Some have other reasons for being present.

Most of the plot will be player driven. Player activity will determine how slow or fast the plot moves along.

Aside from main plot and random events players may do just about anything within reason. Have character react to the setting, attempt to take over, explore the castle or paintings, etc.

♣ What happens when my character arrives?

They could wake up in the castle underneath their painting as it is being hung, get dropped in the moat, end up in the wasteland beyond that castle grounds, on the roof, etc. Just not the upper floors or basement right away.

They only have what they had on their person at the moment they were taken.

The NPCs that may be in the castle or paintings will not try to explain anything unless asked and are unlikely to be able to answer many questions anyway.

♣ Can characters go home and come back repeatedly?

Sure, why not? If you really need an excuse for them not to just ditch the place and never return there are many reasons one character may be prevented from leaving while others are not.

♣ Events?

There will occasionally be random events. Silly, serious, dangerous, etc.

And some for random holidays. All are optional.

♣ Can players run a game wide event or plot?

Of course.

♣ How does time pass in game?

Slowly.

♣ Bulletin board?

There is a bulletin with jobs people can do. They mostly involve going into the paintings.

If the job is to retrieve something a place should be given to leave it and rewards will show up in the character's room. When the job is for a Mr. Cloak at least.

Sometimes going in the paintings without a goal in mind can have someone that is a part of the painting ask a favor and give a reward on the spot upon completion.

Characters may also offer jobs to others.

♣ Can I kill my character?

Yes. Please put it behind a cut if and have appropriate warnings for anything that may be disturbing.

Characters are each given three dolls that represent extra lives like in some video games. Whether anything bad happens after they run out or they simply get a continue is up to you because musebox game.
